The Creed Contest
The annual FFA Creed Contest was held on Thursday, October 23 in the Fulton County High School auditorium.
Sixteen freshmen lined the halls with looks of anticipation on their somewhat frightened faces. After drawing numbers and figuring out the group, the contestants took their places in the gymnasium. The Chapter Officers assigned their places and began the special meeting with the opening ceremonies. The Leadership Chairman, J.W. Lane, informed the contestants and parents of the Creed Contest rules. Everyone then organized into their preliminary groups.
After a short intermission, the meeting resumed, and the judges announced the five finalists. They were Emily Henson, Jennifer Parker, Leigha Gaskins, Jenny Murphy, and Madison Major. Once the finalists had finished competing, the judges were taken to a prep room to make their final decision. During this time Chapter Reporter and Sweetheart, Carla Terrett, provided the entertain- ment, followed by guest speakers, Holly Bentley and Kristy Broadbent.
Though the judges faced a tough challenge, they finally determined the winner and alternates. Leigha Gaskins was chosen second alternate, Jenny Murphy, first alternate, and Madison Major was pronounced the winner.
The Greenhand Degree ceremony was also held on October 23. The Freshman Class along with their new first year members received their Greenhand degrees, which is the first step in their FFA career.
The night was full of entertainment, excite- ment, and achievement for many chapter members. Congratulations to the winners, recipients of the Greenhand Degree, and to the coordinator of this event, J.W. Lane. Job well done!
